More information on taxi hire in Aberdeen…
Finding an Aberdeen taxi is easy thanks to the wide selection of bookable taxi services and taxi ranks throughout the city. Here is a quick guide on where to find taxi ranks throughout the city, and at the airport and railways stations.
Where to Find Taxi Ranks in Aberdeen
Some of the main Aberdeen taxi ranks can be found in the city at Back Wynd, Chapel Street, Dee Street and Hadden Street.
You can also hail taxis off the road in the city, but only certain taxis are allowed to pick you up. For taxi ranks and casual street hires, check that the taxis have yellow plates. If the plates are red or green then they are not legally allowed to pick you up.
If you’re travelling to or from the railway station in Aberdeen, taxi ranks can be found in front of the railway station. Taxi drivers must purchase a special licence to pick passengers up here and must have a permit.
Travelling To and From Aberdeen Airport
There are a number of taxi ranks positioned opposite the main airport terminal, and at Bristow heliport. Aberdeen taxis must pay a special fee to sit at these ranks, and only green plated taxis are allowed to pick you up.
Yellow or red plated taxis can pick you up or drop you off at the airport, but must go to a separate pick up/ drop off area away from the airport taxi ranks.
Aberdeen Taxi Hire Tips
When searching for a taxi in Aberdeen, all taxi drivers must display the appropriate license. Although hailing a taxi from the street is a convenient way to travel, if you can, booking in advance could help to save you money on fairs. There are hundreds of pre-bookable (private hire) taxis available throughout the city.
Booking in advance is especially necessary if you’re travelling a long way or going to the airport. You don’t want to risk missing your flight! You may even find that many pre-bookable Aberdeen taxi hire firms have special deals for airport transfers.
Some private hire taxi companies will have vehicles big enough to fit a large number of passengers. However, these are generally more in demand, so again booking in advance is your best bet. The same applies if you’re going to be carrying a lot of luggage that needs to be accommodated in the vehicle.
It’s important never to travel in an unlicensed taxi – if you do, your personal safety could be at risk. If you’re already on your journey and are worried, then be careful not to give away too many personal details to the taxi driver. If you feel uncomfortable then simply ask to be dropped off in a well lit area and call for another taxi. Taxi drivers will generally understand, and if they don’t stop then phone the police or yell from the window and get out as soon as the vehicle stops at traffic lights.
The good news is that travelling by taxi in Aberdeen is an extremely and safe way to go. Simply book in advance if possible, or you’ll find many available taxi cabs to hail down from the street.
